Breast Surgeries

Breast surgeries are procedures that alter the appearance of a patient’s breasts. The three main types are:

  1. Augmentation (Breast Enlargement): This surgery changes the size, shape, and fullness of the breasts and corrects asymmetries.
  2. Mastopexy (Breast Lift): This procedure lifts sagging breasts that have lost firmness.
  3. Combined Lift and Augmentation: A combination of the first two procedures.
  4. Reduction Mammoplasty (Breast Reduction): Designed for women with overly large breasts that cause back, neck, and shoulder problems.

Nipple correction can also be performed as part of breast surgery if necessary.

Given that breast augmentation is the most popular surgery among women aged 18 to 50, we will start with it and then explain the others.

Breast Augmentation

Well-shaped breasts of the ideal size for each body type have always been a symbol of femininity. This is why 98% of women consider augmentation one of the best decisions they’ve made, mainly due to the boost in self-confidence.

A plastic surgeon’s job is to choose the right size and shape of implants through consultations and assessing all body characteristics. Most women aim for a C cup, and the surgeon helps select the ideal size.

The choice of implant shape and the method of insertion are also crucial. Options include placing the implant under or over the muscle and selecting the type of incision that yields the best results with minimal scarring.

The choice of implant shape—whether round (of various profiles) or anatomical—is also important.

Among the three procedures (augmentation, lift, and reduction), augmentation is considered the easiest because it doesn’t involve removing excess skin or making other corrections.

The surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia, with a recovery time of about 7 days. The stitches are absorbable, so they do not need to be removed. Moderate physical activities are allowed about a month after the procedure. Breastfeeding is usually not affected, and future mammograms and ultrasounds are not hindered.

Choosing the right implant is crucial. Current trends favor implants placed under the muscle for a more natural shape. Modern implants are also lighter and more comfortable. The latest generation of implants can last a lifetime and are replaced only if necessary or if the patient desires a change in size.

For women unsure about implants but wanting a fuller bust, breast augmentation with their own fat tissue (lipotransfer) is an option. The advantage is naturalness, but the downside is that breasts can only be increased by one cup size. Also, the result may not be permanent, as the fat may partially reabsorb over time. Suitable candidates are mostly younger women with naturally well-shaped breasts and good skin elasticity to prevent sagging.

Breast Lift

A breast lift (mastopexy) raises sagging breasts to give them a fuller, firmer shape. This surgery is often combined with augmentation to increase volume.

Breast lifts are popular among mothers after childbirth and breastfeeding and among older women wanting to rejuvenate their bodies. Sagging breasts can be uncomfortable during physical activities, similar to overly large breasts.

During this surgery, excess skin and breast tissue are removed, and the nipples are often repositioned. The result is youthful, lifted breasts that match the patient’s body.

The final results are visible after a few months. Breastfeeding is usually not affected if the patient decides to have another child.

Breast Reduction

Overly large breasts can disrupt body harmony and hinder daily activities like moving, sleeping, and sports. They often negatively impact health by causing back problems. Breast reduction surgery reduces and lifts the breasts to achieve a more moderate volume and restore a youthful ”tear-drop” shape.

During the surgery, excess skin and subcutaneous tissue are removed, and the areolas are reshaped and reduced. A breast lift is an integral part of breast reduction surgery.

The main reasons for satisfaction after breast reduction surgery include reduced back, shoulder, and neck pain, better sleep, and a more balanced figure, enabling a more active lifestyle without the burden of overly large breasts.
